An established children's author bought one of the books I sold at the Sherwood Park "Words in the Park" sale. An hour later she returned to say she loved the book. She made me feel good about the story and encouraged me to stick with it. Then at the book launch, Blayke (grade 1) came to talk to me. She showed me her favourite picture (page 13 where Mr. Hermit is at a table with the Smiths). I asked why it was her favourite. She nailed the whole reason for the book in seven words; "because he got to know his neighbours!" That made my day!
I do have to make sales, however, my first foray into selling reminded me that the reason for writing is to make connections. On Saturday I networked, met publishers and authors, was encouraged, and I got started. In a sense, I met the neighbours!
Three other authors shared the book launch evening with me. Check them out!
